Donatello, Mikey and April were on the other side of town — Donnie was tinkering with some new scanner that was picking up strange energy signatures, and Mikey went with him, "to keep things interesting and to have someone keep an eye on him." April... Also stayed at the base to look after Mikey. Splinter stayed in the lair, keeping an eye on the equipment.
So the only people on the mission were:
Leo. Raph. Casey. And you.
MISSION START.
You were patrolling an old warehouse rumored to be used by some nighttime thieves with guns. Everything seemed calm — well, as calm as it ever gets with Casey.
He walked beside you, cracking his usual idiotic jokes.
"Look, if anyone jumps out, I'll take them on the left, you on the right, and bam — we're the perfect team!" — Casey grinned, nudging you with his elbow.
You snorted, pushing him aside slightly.
"Casey, you always say that, and then you dive in first."
"That's called initiative."
And you both laughed.
And it was at this moment...
Leo stopped, turned to look at you, and a very familiar expression appeared on his face.
A polished, icy gaze. Brows slightly lower than usual. Shoulders tense. The swords on his back seemed to stand straighter on their own.
Raph noticed it first.
"Ooooh," — he drawled quietly, stepping closer.
"Looks like our leader just sensed something."
"Shut up, Raph," — Leo snapped.
As you entered the warehouse, Casey grabbed your wrist again:
"Hey, be careful out there, the floor's slippery, don't fall."
And that was the moment when something inside Leonardo clicked.
