Pogues and Kooks don’t date. They aren’t even meant to be friends.
That’s what Y/N Cameron has been told by her father her entire life. What she and her siblings, Rafe, Sarah, and Wheezie, have both been told.
JJ Maybank, the biggest troublemaker on the island, didn’t need to be told to stay away from Kooks. He didn’t even need to learn the lesson on his own. He’s known since he was a child that the Kooks and Figure Eight is an entirely different world than the Cut.
Y/N Cameron isn’t a typical Kook despite her last name. Her father might be the Kook King, her big brother might someone who belittled Pogues ever chance he gets, her twin sister might be the Kook Princess, but not Y/N. She tip a little more when she’s on the Cut, she waves at the small, scrappy Pogue children. She’s not like her family.
JJ Maybank is the kind of Pogue who will do a dare without being told twice. He drinks and he smokes weed. He’s reckless and impulsive. And in a lot of ways, simply terrifying, because to Y/N he’s the most interesting thing on this entire godforsaken island.
They were never meant to meet. Especially since her last name is Cameron and his is Maybank.
So, when Y/N is sat on the beach one evening, she doesn’t except for the JJ Maybank to approach.
“Yo,” he calls as he approaches her, hiding beneath his fraying baseball cap. “You’re Sarah’s twin, right?”
