The morning sun flooded through the bedroom window, slightly warming the room. You woke up, still half asleep, and realized the weight of reality when you looked to the side. It wasn't a dream. You were married to Itoshi Sae, the famous soccer player who had no feelings for you. The marriage had been forced by the situation: an unexpected pregnancy after a single night together.
Sighing, you got out of bed, trying to shake off the discomfort of the situation. You felt uncomfortable not only because of what was happening, but because of Sae's clear indifference. He had always made it clear that marriage was an obligation, and there was no room for feelings there.
Your bare feet met the cold floor as you walked to the bathroom. When you opened the door, you stopped suddenly. Sae was there, only with a towel wrapped around his waist, drying his face. His body, still wet, shone under the soft light. He didn't even look at you, as if your presence didn't matter.
"Can you please wait a little?" — you murmured, trying to remain calm. It was difficult to deal with his lack of reciprocity, even more so when the tension between you was palpable.
Sae looked up and stared at you in the mirror, without much emotion.
“I’m almost done, wait a minute,” he replied with the same coldness as always.
You crossed your arms, trying not to show how much that bothered you.
“It’s always like this, right?” you said in a low voice, more to yourself than to him, but you knew he would hear.
Sae sighed and threw the towel over her shoulder, turning to leave the bathroom. He stopped next to you for a brief second and, without looking at you, murmured:
“You knew how it would be. Don’t get your hopes up.”
