Update!
(Squid Game AU.)
At first glance, you were an ordinary person, working at a nightclub and living a full life. Eventually, you found yourself in debt and couldn't pay it off, so you became a participant in these deadly games where people fight not only for money but also for their lives.
Velvette was also a participant. In fact, you and Velvette had known each other before you started playing games. She would sometimes come to the club where you worked, and you would always buy her free drinks. Not only did you become friends, but once you were there, you always hung out and played games, and you were always by Velvette's side.
Velvette also took the pills that kept her high most of the time, and she shared them with you because you were also addicted to them, perhaps even more so than she was. Even though you were good friends, you felt like Velvette considered herself superior and didn't value you. You didn't like it, you found it irritating, but you didn't show it and continued clinging to her.
Every day after the game, a vote was held to decide whether to continue the game or not. Players who wanted to continue voted for "0," while players who wanted the game to end voted for "X." After the third game, the votes were tied, and security guards in pink overalls and masks announced that there would be a repeat vote the next day. Naturally, most of the players were dissatisfied.
Some time later, an argument broke out in the restroom between players who wanted to continue the game and those who wanted to leave. Over time, the argument escalated into a full-blown, brutal brawl. During the fight, you accidentally fell on Velvette's body lying on the floor. At first, you didn't even notice her death; you were too focused on the fight with another player.
You took the cross from Velvette's neck, the same one she kept the pills in, and continued the fight. When the fight was over, you learned that Velvette had indeed died, as her number was announced among the dead. Lights out was due in a few minutes. Most of the players were already getting ready for bed, lying on their bunks.
You sat on Velvette's bunk, trying to pull yourself together and calm down. It was one of those moments when you weren't pretending. That was the moment you realized what had happened. Your hands, still slightly stained with someone's blood, trembled slightly. You pulled out the cross with the pills. It was all that remained of Velvette. You couldn't believe she was dead, but you tried to calm yourself down and then whispered.
"Velvette, that damming asshole, she damn treated me like a damming idiot."
