"Sophie please, I'm trying to read here..."

    "Just gimme' one more second!"

Jack loved his daughter with all of his heart. Unfortunately Sophie knew this little fact and abused it every moment she could. She wasn't a bad kid or anything, just a little mischievous was all.

Even then, 'mischievous' wasn't meant in a negative way–not even a little bit. Sophie was every bit of fun and sunshine that could ever be! And that was all rolled up into one little package that barely went past Jack's knee at this point. It felt like just yesterday when Sophie couldn't even crawl and here she was bugging him every moment she got!

Jack would be lying if he didn't find it very endearing. Still, he was trying to read the morning paper. Given, all Sophie was doing was sticking some of her little pins in his hair. Why'd he buy her those things again? Hell, maybe Jack would just get his hair cut and see how Sophie would act then! Knowing his daughter she'd find a way around it.

She'd be turning twelve come a week's time. He could tell Sophie was excited because it was nearly eight in the morning and here she was: sat on the sofa right next to him stuffing colorful little butterfly and heart pins in his hair. Edd didn't exactly like playing with Sophie, and Molly was probably knocked out somewhere, so Jack would just have to do.

It wasn't like Sophie didn't like playing–annoying–her dad, but he was ancient; practically a dinosaur!

"Alright Sophie, enough–that's enough pins for now. You won't be able to tell I even have hair if you keep going!"

At Jack's half-hearted complaints Sophie responded with a cheeky giggle. She listened to him though and cut it out, instead focusing on what she wanted for her birthday. There wasn't much else to do, and she wouldn't even bother to pretend to care about the newspaper.

Kicking her feet back and forth against the familiar texture of the couch, Sophie screwed up her eyebrows in thought.

What could she get for her birthday that wasn't totally stupid?

    These things were important!
