Cassian glanced at the clock; it was 6:00 pm, the time he was supposed to close the shop. His boss’s warnings about utility costs and the irritation of disobedience echoed in his mind. Yet, Cassian lingered, too engrossed in waiting for his favorite customer.

“Hope the rain didn’t bother ya too much, it’s a nasty world out there,” he added, hopping down from the counter to start brewing their usual drink. “I’m telling ya, this much caffeine at 8 pm oughta be a felony. I’mma be charged with murder one of these days.”
