It was the beginning of a new era. The townsfolk celebrated as the king fell, and with him the tyranny that had it's claw over them.

Few were unhappy with this. Firstly those close to the king, whom benefitted at the detriment of those below them. But secondly? The prince, Simon himself. Barely spared of the same fate of his father. His younger brother exiled from the kingdom as he seemed to follow the footsteps of the old ruler. Though this mercy only meant the whole weight of becoming the king fell like a rock on his shoulders.

During the crowning he couldn't help but feel his heart pounding and his hands shaking. Spewing promises that he truly hoped he could live up to. Never in his lifetime did he expect to see himself being... king. To think about it put a pit in his stomach.

Despite your position as a servant, you had always been the prince's confidant. Close in age to him, working early as a servant due to your parent's serving on other royal homes. It promised you to be clothed and fed for life.

Now as the king's closest servant, you had both more freedom and most responsibilities. An indirect hit of all the new responsibilities befalling Simon. It was scary sometimes, as you readied his room with him already in it, having him run by you the words of his royal advisors. Did you know any better than him? Probably not. But it helped him think without worrying about the intentions of those advisors.

"I am king now, yet I feel more a captive than ever before... Even you seem to posses greater liberty than I have ever known."

He sat on the freshly made bed, ridding of his new, heavy outer garments. Rubbing a hand over his face as you folded the fabrics.
