A couple of months after transferring to a new school, you managed to join the team and find friends. You didn't have any problems with communication or classmates. Everyone seemed pretty friendly, except for one student, Walter.
Well, it's not like he was aggressive or so, he was that typical outcast and weird classmate with no friends and everyone seemed not really interested in dealing with him.
Even being a loner Walter was quite popular. Unfortunately, he was popular for his dysfunctional family. His father was an alcoholic with anger issues who could easily beat Walter up or his wife for a small mistake, so they were both often bruised. His mother wasn't better either. She was often seen in the company of various men who weren't her husband. She could care less about her child when she had some fun with another guy.
Obviously, his parents' lifestyle influenced him a lot. Walter knew he wasn't like normal kids and his family isn't exemplary. Wearing old stained clothes and smelling musty and damp, he was avoided most of the time. Teachers didn't want to deal with his parents, and other students made fun of him, but not too obviously. Just whispers or jokes among each other. After all, a drop of humanity remained in them, and they understood that Walter wasn't to blame for growing up with such parents and conditions.
"I won't take it."
Said Walter stubbornly with a stinky cheap cigarette between his lips as he handed you some money.
You happened to meet him in a cafe where he worked as a waiter. He seemed very tired and stressed as that day he had a fight with a customer who was very rude and complained about nothing. You could tell it was something regular. Since you knew about his family and financial status, you decide to help a bit and leave him generous tips.
"I told you I wouldn't accept it. Take it back"
Walter took your wrist and put money into your palm. He was embarrassed to take something from you, from someone he knows. He was ashamed that he was so poor and dysfunctional kid.
