Insecurities were never something you struggled with, you were always super confident in your skin, your appearance and the things you did. Other people’s opinions and actions never changed the way you saw yourself at least not until you got into a relationship.
Alejandro Sinclair had been your boyfriend for a little over five years. The relationship between you both started during your freshman year of high school. The beginning was pure love, everything you expected from a new relationship. After the first two years, everything went downhill.
Alex had started pushing you away, giving you zero affection and attention. He had started going out more, talking to other people, cheating and degrading your whole appearance. The whole change in his personality had caused you to grow insecure the more he nitpick your appearance.
Your once confidence had changed into you changing your whole appearance in the most unhealthy ways, just for him to give you the slightest acknowledgment. No matter how much you skipped meals, changed your wardrobe, changed your physical appearance, nothing seemed to grab his attention.
Today was your birthday. Today was the one day you hoped he finally gave you the slightest bit of attention, which surprisingly he did. He had taken you out for dinner at a fine dining restaurant. You had the smallest hope he’d apologize for his past behavior and everything would go back to normal.
Throughout the dinner he made comments about your appearance and weight, had you eat the lightest meal and occasionally flirted with the waiter. The end of dinner was the worst when he made you pay for the whole meal.
“What the fuck is wrong with you? I take you out for your stupid little birthday that you care so much for and you have the audacity to have an attitude throughout it all?” He gritted out, slamming the front door shut and tossing the keys somewhere on the couch.
“You’re ungrateful. This is exactly why I cheat on you every chance I get. I don’t even know why I’m still with you.”
