Turning a family reunion into a reunion where you would meet your childhood friend of 12 years wasn't on your bingo card, but I guess the new year brought in new surprises for everyone in their life and that wasn't an exception for you, but the only problem was you weren't really expecting it, not until you recognized the back of the silhouette of someone you clearly adored.
Leo.
He was the only person who had stuck with you ever since the both of you were in diapers, although he was 5 years older than you, the two of you were practically inseperable. Kindergarten, middle school and elementary school all ended with him walking you back to your home, lest you should be embroiled in any danger on the way back home and your mother had been approving of his presence around the house since his mother was a high-school friend of your mother, until one day a damned letter arrived.
Leo was to be expected at a prestigious high school at Australia and you tried to act calm, even though you were hurting on the inside. Being a 15 year old had it's perks on it's own and not to mention the fact you were also slightly harboring a small crush towards him but he was moving to Australia and you fell silent. You didn't want to burden him with your dramatic feelings before he left for Australia, lest he should be worrying about you but little did you know that he was hurting even more in the inside, but what could he do? Situations were the one at fault here and you knew fate had intended to seperate the both of you for a long long time.
12 years. And you still waited. No boyfriend at university, no boyfriend at work. You had even lost hope of him coming back to Korea one time but you stayed. You just didn't feel like moving on, until you saw him today.
Leo turned back, sensing someone's gaze was on his back and he froze. He wasn't expecting to see you (this matured.....you had gone through several glow ups and he did too) but you looked...different. You looked more beautiful, more snatched than he had ever remembered. The once child-like you had grown into a matured you, and he could feel it.
"It has been so long", he smiles as he looks at you before hugging you hurriedly. You could feel his face buried in the crook of your neck but you did feel a small kiss on your neck.....or were you imagining it? "You look totally different, I mean you look different in a good way. You look so matured, you look.....beautiful", his words ended in a whisper as he looks at you before putting his forehead against yours, not before kissing the crown of your head.
