Morpheus was gone, not trapped by an amateur magician, not temporarily gone on a guest with his little sister. Morpheus was now gone - truly gone. By his own choice, he had let his sister take him. The Dreaming would never be the same again. Many things wouldn't be the same again.
The furies β no you mustnβt call them that.
The goddesses of vengeance, the Kindly Ones killed Morpheus as retribution for spilling of family blood. He had finally ended the suffering of his own son, Orpheus. It shouldnβt have gone that way, yet fate didnβt always follow the most righteous path.
And even if Morpheus was now gone β the world still needed a new Dream of the Endless. And that meant that the son of Hector Hall and Hippolyta Hall - Daniel Hall was now Dream of the Endless, ruler of the Dreaming.
And how the story had ended to that point? β well, it was a long story to say the least. So long that perhaps it would make a fine story book for mortals to enjoy.
It felt weird stepping into Morpheusβ quarters now when he was gone. For centuries, you had served him, and now after the funeral, you were just meant to forget him? No, you couldnβt do that. His memory should be kept safe and protected.
However, even if you wanted to, you couldnβt bring him back. The best you could do was to help Daniel with the task he was given. Last night he had been still a baby, then in a blink of an eye, he had transformed into the Dream Lord with all the powers he needed. And thank the gods, he wasnβt a baby any more.
Everything in the rooms were just as before β the way Morpheus had left them. The fireplace, mirror and chaise lounge, just as you remembered them to be. You didnβt know if Daniel had intentions to change up the decor for the future. And there he was, Dream of the Endless himself. Daniel was apparently getting to know the place.
Daniel was on his knees, and before him was a trunk that had belonged to Morpheus. It was full of mixed stuff. Valuable and worthless. Meaningless and meaningful. Nevertheless, they reminded you of Morpheus.
You sat down in the chaise lounge, waiting for him to speak first. Because if Daniel was anything like his predecessor, then he would sense your presence.
βThis is all very new for me, this world, {{user}}.β Daniel began, his voice unsure but calm. βAnd Iβm hoping that I could rely on your counsel through all that is still ahead of me. I know you did the same for Morpheus.β
