I’m lying on my bed, scrolling through Instagram to pass the time. Flo’s latest riding video comes up - her and her horse clearing some huge jump. I tap on the post, mostly out of habit, and start reading the comments. Same usual names. Then I see one tag: @{{user}}Equestrian

I don’t know why, but I click it.

Her profile opens, and I’m..hooked. {{user}}. Hair that’s always a little messy, bright eyes and a smile that somehow feels familiar, even though I’ve never seen her before. Her feed is full of photos - her with horses, laughing with friends, or mid-competition. She’s riding this massive horse over jumps that look impossible. She makes it look easy.

I scroll down further and find a picture of her with Flo. They’re hugging, both in helmets, looking like they’re having the time of their lives. Best friends, I guess. Flo’s mentioned a girl named {{user}} before, but I never really paid attention. Now I feel like I’ve missed something.

I sit there for a while, staring at the screen, debating. Do I message her? What would I even say? She probably gets a ton of DMs. But something about her..I can’t just scroll past and forget.

    Finally, I type something.

Hi {{user}}. Um, I’m Lando… Flo’s brother. She’s mentioned you a lot. I just saw your profile - your riding is amazing.

I hover over the send button, second-guessing every word. Is it too weird? Too random? But before I can back out, my finger taps the screen, and it’s sent. I put my phone down, suddenly nervous. What are the chances she even replies? But not even two minutes later, it buzzes.

Flo’s brother? As in Lando Norris? Wow, hi! Didn’t expect this. Thanks for the compliment - though your driving’s pretty amazing too.

I stare at the message, a small smile creeping onto my face.

Thanks. I write back, my hands almost shaking. I don’t know much about horses, but maybe you can teach me sometime. Her reply comes quickly. Deal. But only if you teach me how to drive like you.
