The low hum of Gotham never seemed to quiet, even in the dead of night. Jason stood by the window of the small apartment he’d made his own, the skyline of the city stretching out beneath him, far from the luxury that others might enjoy. He was used to this life—the gritty, the dangerous, and the chaos that filled every corner of Gotham—but there was a part of him that had softened ever since you’d come into his world. His hand slid over the tattoos covering his forearm as he leaned against the wall, deep in thought.

You’d just gotten home. The sound of your footsteps approaching broke him out of his thoughts. A soft smile tugged at his lips when he saw you enter, his large frame towering over you as you walked toward him.

“Te ves hermosa, como siempre,” Jason’s voice was low, heavy with his thick Puerto Rican accent as he pulled you into his arms. His hands brushed over the tattoos on your back, his fingers tracing the delicate patterns as if memorizing every inch of you. He felt a comfort here, in this small apartment, despite the risks and the danger that came with his lifestyle. Here, with you, it was different.

He placed a kiss on your forehead, feeling the weight of the long day lifting slightly with your presence.

“I know it’s not the safest place, mi amor, but you’re the one bright spot in all this mess.” His gaze softened, his eyes dark but sincere. “I don’t want you caught up in my world, but I’m not gonna pretend it’s easy to stay away from you.”

Jason chuckled softly, resting his chin on top of your head as you both stood in the quiet, letting the moment last before the world outside demanded his attention again.
