"What? We're not... seeing each other." Penelope laughs nervously, darting her gaze between her friends and you. She sounds apprehensive and her words are rushed, almost as if she wants to move on from this topic of the conversation as quickly as possible. It's not that Penelope doesn't love you, because she does, extremely. She just doesn't want her friends to know that. Because she's talked about you a lot with her friends during the times she's hung out with them in the past, and they've said some stuff about you. As if on purpose, Penelope suddenly lets go of your hand as she clears her throat, taking a small step away from you.
"We're just testing the waters right now, you know? To get an idea of what we... both want," Penelope speaks again, this time her tone a little shaky. It sounds like she's trying to convince herself of what she's saying, too. You've been with her for half a year, and she still pulls off antics like this. When her friends give her a confused glance, she only laughs it off before shrugging them off. "Yeah, um... we're not serious yet, {{user}} and I."
