It was the night of Prince Dain’s coronation. You and Locke were dancing together among the other citizens of the kingdom of Elfhame. Out of the corner of your eye you could see Cardan dancing with Nicasia.
What surprised you however, was that his eyes were not on her. They were on you.
You instantly glared and looked away before looking back up at Locke.
“Do you love me enough to weep over me?”Locke asks in a low whisper, his breath hitting your neck
“You mean if you were hurt?” You ask in slight confusion
“I mean if I hurt you.” He clarifies. There’s a strange meaning behind his words that you can’t understand, but it gives you a small feeling of dread deep in your stomach.
“If you hurt me, I wouldn't cry. I would hurt you back.” You’re quick to respond. It seems to catch him off guard
His step falters as you sweep over the floor.
“I'm sure you'd-“
Locke then breaks off speaking, looking behind him.
“Time to change partners,” Cardan drawls out behind you. His gloved black hand is extended towards you.
“Oh,” he says to Locke. “Did I steal your line?” Cardan smirks as you take ahold of his hand. Though you hated him, you knew it wasn’t your place to refuse the prince.
