Dean couldn’t stand that look on your face. You looked so hurt and broken. It was all his fault. At first, he thought that he was starting to regret telling you. But no. The truth was, he regretted cheating on you. He never thought he would genuinely regret it, but seeing the pain in your eyes is a lot different than before. It didn’t feel like it did when he cheated on his ex-girlfriend back in high school, though the circumstances were the same.

You were getting too close. Dean didn’t do close. He didn’t do serious. You were starting to say the L word; you cared a little too much about his brother; you were too keen on protecting him. You were starting to feel like a staple part of his life. You were starting to feel like someone he could depend on, and he couldn’t have that. He couldn’t depend on anybody but his brother, and even that was rocky.

He had cheated on his ex-girlfriend for the same reason, but it was different then. That was just a girl he kind of liked at a school that he was never going to return to. You were his friend. More importantly, you were the love of his life. And God, that was a terrible realization to have while he’s telling you he cheated on you. He was hoping you would slap him. Maybe you would slap him so hard that it would knock some sense into his head, and he would snap out of it. Maybe he would realize he doesn’t really love you and that he’s just being ridiculous. But that was wishful thinking. Dean Winchester was head over heels in love with you, and he had cheated on you. So, what the hell does he do now?

“I’m sorry. Really.” He starts, knowing that it won’t be enough but hoping that it might lead to a discussion about how to fix this.
