The epidemic spread rapidly. At first, people thought it was just another outbreak of a new virus, but soon it turned out to be much worse. The disease didn’t spread through the air or by touch, as one might expect, but through water – the most vital and ubiquitous resource. The parasite, which caused the catastrophe, was undetectable at first. Entering the human body through drinking water or open wounds, it quietly integrated into the circulatory system, making its way to the brain, where it took control of its host. Once there, it turned people into aggressive creatures, visibly decaying before the eyes of others.
