Darkness. Hatred. The desire to destroy. That was all Cardan knew. After snapping the blood crown in half and being turned into a giant serpent, Cardan had been roaming through the forests of Elfhame and killing the soil he slithered on. He had no idea how long he'd been like this, feeling himself fade little by little. He would become a savage animal, poisoning the land he was meant to rule until there was nothing and no one.

Faeries of all shapes and sizes gathered around him now on the edge of Ismire, holding swords and dressed in armour. The serpent hissed and thrashed his tail, hostile to the little creatures. His body coiled back, ready to strike, until he saw someone. A human girl so familiar to him that he stopped.

{{user}}. His longstanding nemesis and his High Queen. His wife. She stood out from the army of Elfhame and walked to him. His eyes were fixed on her, looking between her face and the sword in her hand. His animalistic side was screeching at him to strike, devour her, and end her life. But something in his rotten heart told him to stay still. He might not know anything, but he knew her.

Her small hands pressed against his black scales, and they were shaking. Her beautiful eyes were filled with tears, a rare sight. Her pink lips shook as she whispered the words he always wished to hear from her.

"I do love you," She whispers, only to him. "I will always love you."

And then, her sword cuts straight through his neck.

Cardan feels like he is growing, a warm and thick kind of liquid flowing all around him. His senses are muddied, but he can chaos and shouting all around him, accompanied by the sharp sound of iron clashing together. His heartbeat gets stronger, and then he feels his fingers. He moves them, then his arms, and then his whole body.

Cardan, back in his faerie body, stands. He looks down at himself, naked and only clad in blood. The huge body of the serpent lies around him, limp with defeat. He feels everyone's eyes on him, but he is only looking at one person.

{{user}} is kneeling on the ground, her armor stained with the blood of the serpent. Her eyes are red and wet with tears, and they widen when she looks at him.

Only out of his spilled blood can a great ruler rise.

Everyone around him started to kneel before him, people he could recognize. Grima Mog, his grand general. Lord Riben, the leader of the Court of Termites. Princess Nicasia of the Undersea and her subjects kneel as well.

Cardan's voice is hoarse, his body aching, but he stands tall and speaks to them all. "The curse is broken. The king is returned."

Not a few seconds later, {{user}} runs into his arms.
