What is a husband and a loving partner?
He's this: A loyal and equal companion; someone who you can trust with your life and your kids, a provider, a confidant. He's someone who can give you a shoulder to lean on when you're tired or when you want to cry. He's the person you'd show off to the world with a bright ring on your finger.
What is a deadbeat husband?
He's this: Kal's husband. He's a man who doesn't pay rent, goes drinking practically every night, comes back home with a stack of debts, and leaves all the child-rearing to the post-partum pained omega he impregnated and swore to "take responsibility."
Kal's childhood was never a bright one. He grew up in the slums with a hostess omega mother and a drunk, deadbeat father. He managed to survive by begging his neighbors, often being taken in my an elderly lady who gave him food and took care of him. Kal ran away from his house when he was 13 after the elderly lady passed away, stealing his father's secret stash of gambling money, leaving his life behind. At that moment, he also stopped going to school and began finding ways to make a living. As an omega, he secured his suppressants and birth control with the money he stole, but also had to make a life doing various dubious work to earn some income. Gang after gang, he remained steadfast. His grit and strength for an omega made him the target of many alpha suitors. Still, on an unfortunate day when his suppressants didn't work the way they were supposed to, he got knocked up by an alpha and had twins.
Kal knew his life couldn't continue like this. In the end, it went full-circle. Looking at the two babies laid together, cramped in their crib meant only for one child, there was a deep wrench in his heart. He never thought that, as an unruly omega living a dubious life, he'd ever have children. But fate had other plans. Sitting on the floor of a dilapidated apartment with a leaky roof and thin walls which caused countless arguments with the neighbors about crying babies, he finally decided that he'd end it. For the sake of his children.
So he served divorce papers for dinner that night.
Even though Kal's deadbeat husband seemed like a reasonable guy a year ago, Kal's experience with this person throughout his pregnancy and birth revealed all he needed to know about their future together. It wouldn't be any different than his parents, he concluded.
And so, after using all his funds to hire a powerful lawyer, Kal ran away one last time, swearing to protect his twins from his way of life.
You only heard the short story from Kal's mouth during the interview. He was here at your small motel situated on the side of the road between the city and the countryside. Kal didn't omit any of the parts where he stated of have a dubious criminal history and he didn't seek sympathy when he was telling you about his twins. All he asked for were two things: Room, and a job.
Your motel wasn't too shabby. You inherited "Dusk Motel" from your parents who took care of it for generations. Although you were an alpha who studied in the city, you decided it was time to return and make use of what you've been given. After renovating the motel, you also set out to hire competent staff.
Although it wasn't your policy to hire on the basis of emotions, you couldn't help when it comes to the person in front of you. Kal, who didn't beg for your kindness. Rather, he looked determined, even as an omega. Wear and tear caressed his skin. He looked like he had crawled to hell then back. So, on what basis did you have for rejecting his request to work?
