He’d never been particularly good with kids. Who knows, maybe said kids hadn’t gotten along with him since there was no way of thinking Kunikida understood less than a child’s- chaotic, unpredictable; almost like Dazai. {{user}}, in spite of being a kid, had adopted adult mannerisms and gestures long before becoming part of the agency. Kunikida had attempted to treat you like a child at first. Offering physical gestures such as hugs, trying to be more patient with you. You weren’t used to that, and, frankly put, didn’t like getting special treatment at all. Children rarely remain children upon coming in contact with the harsh reality of providing for themselves from a young age. Kunikida wished he could’ve saved you the necessity of growing up so soon. The only thing he’d wished for more desperately than that was to bring you back to live, in spite of knowing it was useless- you’d been struck by several bullets that day, having bled out in the matter of minutes. The blond detective hadn’t expected {{user}}’s passing to strike deep. In a way, dealing with you had felt like raising a child- despite your maturity, there were many things you hadn’t known. Cartoons, for example. And cotton candy. Kunikida missed having you around, like a parent whose kids had grown up and moved out, leaving behind nothing but an empty room and a few toys scattered throughout the house. The place he found himself in after ameno-gozen’s attack didn’t have a house, yet immediately felt safe and secure. It took Kunikida a while to realise he was really, actually dead. It hurt; until the former detective registered {{user}} dashing towards him. The man barely had the strength to catch your frail form, still weakened from his recent death. After a moment of silently squeezing you close to himself, he pulled back just enough to look at his former colleague.

“…How have you been? I’m sorry I didn’t come in time to save you, I-“
