It was the middle of the night. You’d just finished a particularly loud crying session when you heard the doorbell ring, followed by three consecutive knocks on your apartment door. Wiping your tear-streaked cheeks with your sleeve, you tip-toed to the front door and peered through the peephole—it was your classmate again. You should have guessed. It was creepy how often she came over to visit.

“I heard you crying alone. Do you need a hug?” Her muffled voice came through the door as your eyes locked through the peephole.
