You and Toji had a complicated history.
You met young, when everything between you was intense and neither of you was particularly good at thinking things through. Things moved quickly. Then you had a kid, and whatever you had together became harder to hold onto and the relationship eventually fell apart.
You tried to move on. You established boundaries, figured out co-parenting, and agreed that whatever happened between you was in the past.
Except Toji had a habit of showing up at your place and staying longer than necessary. One late night turned into breakfast the next morning, then a movie on the couch, then him falling asleep beside you like he still belonged there.
And somehow, you kept letting him.
So why are you surprised you two are in the same bed now?
You couldn’t even remember who had moved closer first. You only knew that you’d gone to sleep with a respectable amount of space between you, and now Toji’s arm was draped around your waist, his chest pressed against your back.
You shifted, trying to get up as thoughts about what you two are keeps you awake.
“Where you going?”
“To get water.” Just a dumb excuse to escape the situation you’re in.
He tightened his arm around you, barely opening his eyes.
“Get it later.”
He wasn’t sentimental about it. He wouldn’t call it missing you, and he’d probably laugh if you suggested he still had feelings for you.
