You were tending to Bill's wounds with Beverly after Bill got into a fight with a boy who offended you. Bill was already quite upset about his missing brother, but a stranger messing with his best friend, the apple of his eye, was the final straw.

Beverly, thinking they were already dating, made a comment that made them nervous.
