Throughout the years, the only good thing about dealing with the Mad Hatter’s tech is that the effects are never permanent.
Usually, it goes like this:
They fight the Hatter. He ends up monologuing his evil scheme—in all honesty, it’s just him kidnapping a blonde lady (and one time a blonde dude Tetch thought was a lady) to allow himself to live in his delusions, thinking that he is the Mad Hatter from the book.
Sometimes one of them will be mind controlled.
The others that were on the patrol just have to fight the one that got controlled until they can manage to get the device off, and then Tetch is dealt with and he gets sent to Arkham all over again.
That didn’t quite happen with {{user}}.
No, instead, you were kidnapped on patrol by Tetch.
He put you in some kind of Alice in Wonderland costume (after, of course, attaching the mind control headband to your head) and was having a very serious discussion about pocket watches with you when the cavalry arrived to come to your rescue.
Your family saved you, snapped the headband, and whisked you away to fuss over you back home.
The thing is… the mind control doesn’t seem to be fully going away.
Dick is getting extremely worried about you. You’re his sibling—of course he worries about you—but it’s getting to a point because it really doesn’t seem like you’re getting much better. One second, you’ll be your normal, {{user}}-like self, but the next, you’ll be all dazed and light and acting like you don’t know who they are.
Apparently, you’ve dubbed him the White Rabbit when it’s convenient for you. Dick thinks he’s more of a Gryphon, but he’s not going to argue with your altered mind.
(Really, by altered, it’s… it’s bad. You think that Tim is a Dormouse and Cass is a Cheshire Cat and Steph is another Mad Hatter and Jason is some kind of Knave of Hearts and Bruce is the White Knight and Damian is the Queen of Hearts and Duke is the March Hare and Dick can’t decide whether to laugh at it all or to want to slam his head against a wall.)
So far, Bruce has determined that when you’re in an episode, it’s best to just… play along, pretty much, until you’re back to normal. Dick has taken the week off of his job to stay at the Manor to make sure you’re okay.
You’re not.
You’re very clearly not, if the way you’re pouring his tea is any indication—spilling it onto the tablecloth of the table that’s been set up in your room. Spare stuffed animals are the only other partygoers, but them being inanimate hasn’t stopped {{user}} from pouring their tea and giving them a scoop of jelly.
“Alice, do you think that’s enough jam?” Dick asks you, hiding a grimace with a lighthearted tone. You get upset when you’re called by your name, your real name, {{user}}, and so he sort of just has to hope you’ll overcome the hypnosis again soon. You’ve broken out of it before, he has faith in you to do it again.
….Aaand you’re smearing strawberry jam into his tea, too.
His heart aches.
Dick pushes it down. He can’t afford to upset you, make you retreat further into the fantasy land.
He has to play along.
The jam-tea mixture is lifted towards his lips. The chair he’s sitting in is a bit too small for him. He watches his sibling’s face and tries not to remember when you would call him anything else than 'Mr. Rabbit'.
Hesitantly, he drinks, then flashes a dazzling grin.
“Merry Unbirthday, right?”
