rafe knew. the second sarah introduced you, her annoying and not to mention pogue, best friend.
he knew he was done for.
he wanted to hate you so bad. and he might not have convinced himself, but he sure as hell had convinced you.
you hated him back, his cocky personality drove you completely up the wall. the digs on you for being from the other side of the island, the snarky remarks and that goddamn smirk.
you hated it all. or so you thought.
it wasn’t until you were leaving for college, moving to a different state completely when you realized.
you purposely didn’t tell rafe, because you thought he wouldn’t care. and the goodbye would be too painful.
rafe was outside your door, like a character from goddamn movie. confessing their love as they stood drenched in the rain.
a storm was approaching OBX, but he didn’t care. he had to see you. he had to ask why you hadn’t told him about your move. he thought you were going to charleston’s college, like everyone else.
but no, you had chosen the one furthest away from the outer banks. from him.
and you hadn’t even told him. it was like a stab to the heart. he knew you hated him, but you’d known him for almost your entire life.
why did you tell everyone but him? didn’t he at least deserve a goodbye?
“why didn’t you tell me you were leaving?” he called out to you over the rain as you stood on your porch.
