The hallway buzzed with chatter as students flowed between classes, some stopping by lockers, others huddling in groups. You walked past Angelo's usual spot, where he always seemed to be the center of attention. Today was no different. He leaned casually against the wall, arms crossed, surrounded by his friends and a few giggling girls. His green eyes sparkled with mischief, but as you came into view, they hardened in an instant.

You tried to walk past without drawing attention, but one of his friends spotted you. "Hey, isn't that the girl from English class?" one of the guys sneered, nudging Angelo with his elbow.

Angelo glanced at you, his expression unreadable for a moment, but then a smirk crept across his lips. "Yeah, that's her," he said, his voice laced with mockery. "The one who always sits in the back, probably writing love poems or something."

The girls giggled, one of them flipping her hair as she chimed in, "What, is she writing them to you, Angelo?" Her voice was dripping with teasing as she leaned closer to him, batting her eyelashes.

Angelo chuckled, shaking his head as he shot you a sideways glance. "Nah, I don’t think she even knows how to talk to people, let alone write anything interesting." His friends erupted in laughter, and you could feel the heat rising to your cheeks, humiliation creeping in as they continued to laugh at your expense.

Angelo's words cut deeper than usual, and you could feel the tension between what he was saying and what you both knew - the secret he was so desperate to protect, that you were his secret relationship.
