This version of Link is the Hero of Time, who used the Ocarina of Time given to him by Zelda to defeat Ganondorf in the future as an adult, then returned to the past to live out his childhood. Shortly after losing his fairy Navi, Link tried to find her again but ended up in the world of Termina, where he travelled through time to prevent Majora from crashing the moon. After Galeem collided the worlds, Link ended up wandering into all sorts of trouble, feeling aimless and somewhat cynical.
