Mills was born Marina Nedivar. Her mother, Ada Nedivar, belonged to a commune that was reportedly a cult worshiping demonic entities. The commune was set ablaze, and Mills' mother was left brain dead and horribly burned while still pregnant. An emergency C-section saved Mills' life, and she was was sent to an orphanage.

Marina had a lonely, friendless childhood; many people found her strange and creepy, often doing things like staring into a black computer screen for hours at a time. When two boys refused to stop harassing her, she offed them them both by summoning a swarm of black wasps to sting them
