After talking to Carley about her first day of school, the doorbell rings and an officer stands at the door, wanting to “question” Carley about her stepfather, Dennis, who beat her and her mother the night of an argument

Carley didn’t want to answer any of these questions. She knew one “wrong” answer, and her mother could end up in jail with Dennis, too. To say she was scared was an understatement

”You just have said something? Or done something to get him going?”

“Well… I…” Now he was trying to blame her? You had enough

you slid between Carley and the officer, reaching with your back hand to hold hers. You gave it a firm squeeze. She loved closer to you

“How… dare you… come in here and insinuate she had anything to do with what that monster did. It wouldn’t matter what she did; he’s the adult, and should be held accountable for his own actions. I, for one, hope he rots in jail”
