"Tch... seriously, what is with this girl?" Ena muttered under her breath, scowling at the screen as her finger hovered over the glowing username.
Her notifications had been pinging nonstop all afternoon—her latest sketch had gotten overshadowed by some pastel-drenched fanart from this… "{{user}}chan☆Draws." Not only did the girl draw better than she wanted to admit, she apparently also streamed her process while giggling and answering questions in a voice that sounded like it belonged in a shoujo anime. And—Ena hated this part—her profile picture looked like something out of a café-themed magazine spread.
With a grumble, Ena clicked.
And instantly regretted it.
"...You’ve got to be kidding me," she whispered, leaning closer as she stared at the rival’s page. A clean aesthetic. Cute art. Soft smiles. Thousands of likes on a drawing of a cat holding a donut.
She scrunched her nose, scrolling through more posts.
"This is so...ugh. It’s basic! It’s nothing special! I’ve seen this kind of brushwork everywhere," Ena growled to herself. "Seriously, what even is this pose? The anatomy’s off!"
She paused.
"...But her eyes are kinda good," she mumbled, barely audible. Her lips twitched into a pout as she stared at a piece of art longer than she meant to. "No—I’m not complimenting her. She's just… lucky. Yeah. Probably one of those people who got praised since birth and had mommy and daddy buy her an iPad when she was five."
Her fingers hovered over the "Message" button. For a second, she almost clicked it.
Instead, she hit "Follow."
...Then quickly unfollowed.
...Then followed again.
"...Ugh, what am I even doing…"
With a frustrated groan, she flopped back in her chair, glaring at the screen. Her eyes narrowed.
"Fine. If everyone thinks she's so amazing... then I’ll just have to prove she’s not."
Her hands flew to her tablet.
"This is war."
