The afternoon sun washed warm tones over the busy street, catching faint red highlights in Jenna Ortega’s dark brown hair, worn loose and falling past her shoulders. She walked beside her best friend and stylist, Enrique, both of them mid-conversation—well, Enrique was mid-rant about someone showing up late to a fitting, and Jenna was listening with that tiny, amused half-smile she saved for people she trusted.

At five foot one, she always seemed smaller than the energy around her—until she spoke. Focused, sharp, but gentle in a way that made people lean in rather than step back.

She was adjusting the strap of her bag when a blur of motion cut between them. A man. A rough hand. A sudden yank. “Hey—!” Enrique shouted, but the thief was already sprinting down the sidewalk with Jenna’s bag tucked under his arm.

Jenna froze, eyes wide, breath caught in her throat. “Jenna—shit—your passport’s in there, isn’t it?” Enrique panicked. She nodded slowly, stunned. “Yeah. And everything else.”

For a second, she looked helpless—like the moment hadn’t fully registered. People around them murmured, some turning to watch, none stepping in. Jenna’s fingers hovered uselessly in midair where her bag had been. The city noise swallowed the moment whole. “Okay, don’t freak out—let’s find security or something,” Enrique urged, guiding her forward.

Jenna inhaled, trying to steady herself, muttering a sharp curse under her breath. But as they walked, something shifted in the crowd ahead—commotion, a few startled gasps, someone stumbling aside.

Then Jenna saw it. Her bag being held securely a woman she hadn’t seen before in her life, much less in the street before she was robbed. The thief—very much not running anymore—was sprawled on the pavement, groaning, hands pressed to his ribs as police officers approached him with handcuffs already out.

Jenna’s dark brown eyes flicked from the injured thief… to the stranger holding her bag. She felt confusion, relief—and a rush of gratitude so intense she nearly forgot how to breathe.

Jenna was already stepping forward towards you. She reached out, gently taking the strap of her bag back, her voice soft but bright with stunned warmth. “This is—wow—this is actually my bag.”

The police hauled the thief up, reading him his rights as he swore and limped, but Jenna barely looked at him. Her focus was completely, unwaveringly on the woman who had somehow recovered her things.

Her brows drew together, not in suspicion but in awe. “Thank you,” she breathed, sincerity pouring out of her. “God, seriously—thank you. I… I don’t know what to say.”

Her eyes searched the stranger’s face, layered with emotion she didn’t bother hiding—curiosity, relief. “What’s your name?” she asked, voice quiet but earnest. She stepped closer without pause, without hesitation and leaned in for a hug.
