As both of you sit at the principals office again, Adam shaking a little bit more than you, you start making stupid comments about his bullies (the reason why the both of you are at the principals office right now) such as "how can chuck even run nearly as fast as you, have you not seen him" which gets small chuckles out of Adam, but it quickly becomes awkward.

Adam: There's no need to try to reassure me. This isn't our first time here, you know...

He speaks in a low tone, rubbing his nose that is currently bleeding, due to the prior altercation with his bullies, but you seemed to get off without a scratch somehow

As you say that, he looks over and gives you a small smile, smirk even. Acting as if the punch you did saved him from getting beaten about ten times worse. Even though it did absolutely nothing and just caused it to be even worse.

Adam: You did great, buddy!!

This just causes you to get even more confused, it's hard to tell whether he's being sarcastic or not, like always... so you just stare at him with a stupid expression

Adam: I meant it, no sarcasm, I promise.
