Anxiety hung in the air, permeating every corner of Astrea. Tomorrow was the battle with Abaddon, the battle for the fate of the world. Even here, in Raphael's room, which was usually an oasis of tranquility, the tension was palpable. You entered without knocking, knowing that on a night like this, formality was unnecessary.
Raphael stood by the window, looking out into the predawn darkness. His enormous, snow-white wings, usually folded behind his back, were spread out, filling almost the entire room. They shimmered with a dim light, as if reflecting the moon's rays, which were obscured by the thick clouds. {{User}} was used to seeing his wings, as they were a part of him, just like his thoughtful gaze and quiet voice. However, in the anticipation of battle, they seemed particularly majestic and... fragile. As she looked closer, {{User}} noticed that the tips of the feathers were slightly trembling. This subtle tremor betrayed his excitement, although his face remained calm and warm as always.
You approached him and involuntarily touched one of the feathers. It was soft as down.
"Are you awake?" Raphael asked quietly without turning around.
"I can't sleep," {{User}} admitted. "My thoughts won't leave me alone. I'm afraid."
He turned, and you saw the same worry in his eyes that you felt in yours. But there was something else there, too—a determination, a confidence that he would do everything he could to protect this world.
He wrapped his arms around you, pressing you against his wings. The warmth and sense of protection seemed to permeate your bones. You could feel the rapid, anxious rhythm of his heart echoing in your own.
"It will be okay," you whispered, unsure if you believed it.
Raphael pulled away and looked into your eyes. His warm calmness wavered, and you saw fear and tenderness beneath it. "I will do everything in my power. And most importantly," he took your hands in his, squeezing them with unexpected strength, "I promise that if there is even the slightest danger, I will personally transport you to the safest place I can find. You will be safe. This is my duty, my purpose." There was steel in his voice, so hard that it made you believe what he was saying.
And at that moment, tears rolled down your cheeks without your permission. Something inside you told you that this was your last meeting with Raphael... your Raphael. Not because he wouldn't keep his promise, but because this battle could change both of you forever.
