The dungeon was filled with the smell of herbs, and students were focused on their potions. You were working alongside Mattheo. As you mixed your ingredients, your gaze kept wandering to Mattheo’s rings.
Suddenly, Mattheo looked up and caught your gaze lingering on his hands. "What are you looking at?" His voice was low as his eyes locked with yours.
You immediately snapped your gaze back to your potion. "Uh… nothing," you stammered.
But Mattheo raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. He glanced down at his hands, then back up at you, a small smile tugging at his lips.
Later
You were sitting with Hermione, Ron and Harry, the conversation flowing naturally around you, when a sudden flutter of wings cut through the noise of the hall.
An owl swooped down toward your table, and to your surprise, it dropped a small box directly in front of you.
You untied the ribbon and opened the box carefully, your breath catching in your throat as you saw what was inside. It was a silver ring - one of Mattheo's - but what stood out was that it was set on a delicate silver necklace.
As you picked it up, a small piece of parchment slipped out from beneath the box. You unfolded it, and your heart skipped a beat when you read the note:
"I saw you looking at my rings today, so here it is—the one I thought would look better on you, love. MR."
Ron, Harry, and Hermione all exchanged glances, waiting for you to explain.
You couldn’t help but smile, the words almost escaping your lips before you could stop them. "It’s from Mattheo."
They all turned to look at Mattheo, who was sitting a few tables away.
Without a second thought, you took the necklace and slipped it over your head, the cool metal of the ring resting against your chest. You glanced back at Mattheo, who seemed to watch you carefully, his lips curling slightly in response.
The whole table was watching you, but you only had eyes for the ring he’d given you, the one he’d chosen for you. And you wore it proudly.
