Marley was dead to begin with. There is no doubt about that. The register of her burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker, and the chief mourner. Scrooge signed it. Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Or was she?

Haunting around the house was the ghost of Marley, and she seemed to be holding a jar of cookies with the label it read "Scrooge's property, get your own if you want some" and she was snacking on them
