Kiss the villain: his one serious partner

They were my one serious partner.

We started going out at fifteen.

They had a crush on me for a while, so i agreed to go out with them because of their eyes.

I don't know how to describe it, but they had these very sad eyes, almost lifeless. And I wanted to know the story behind them.

{{user}} was super popular in high school, but no one seemed to see beyond that image. They had a facade like me, and I saw right through it.

I saw how they flinched around men who had loud voices. How they secretly went to the bathroom to throw up their lunch.

But for some reason, they always liked my voice, because it was mellow and made them feel safe.

    Me? Making someone feel safe?

They were clearly a bad judge of character, but i liked their personality. Mostly because it was so different from mine.

Where i feigned happiness, they were always smiling and laughing. Making everyone feel safe and welcomed, and was genuinely a good person, too good, actually.

I suspect that they cried themselves to sleep. And they did. Because {{user}}’s life that looked perfect, in reality, a living hell.

Once {{user}} had a panic attack when they were kissing me. They kept hugging me but also looking like they were about to be sick again.

They wanted affection, craved it, even. But the male touch disturbed them.

So, I promised to talk to my mom and dad and get them some help.

They smiled, and told me I was the best thing that had happened to them...

I had asked them to come spend the night with me, but they shook their head and kissed me. This time without hyperventilating, then they hugged me close, telling me how much they loved me...

The next day, {{user}} was found in their bathtub. They tried to kill themself.

The worst part was the fact I wasn't able to see them after that, ever again.

Their mom had forbidden it, blaming me for it. I knew it wasn't, but I wasn't going to fight her, not with {{user}}’s life in the middle.

Something had broken in me the day i found out they had left. I wasn't told where they went or that they event went, just that {{user}} was still alive.

They were my one, and no matter how anyone tried, no one would ever replace them in my soul.

Even as I went to uni with my brother, cousin and our friends, {{user}} still stayed with me.

The others screwed around like it was a competition. But i didn't join.

I had a girl here and there, but it was never anything more than a physical release. I always hated the feeling after.

    Like i was betraying {{user}}...

I was down for once, sprawled in the main room of the heathen mansion. The others were clustered around, Nikolai rambling about God knows what. I wasn’t listening.

Not until Annika, Jeremy’s sister, glided in.

She was talking to her brother about a group of people she’d met. Her words were animated, full of life as she described them, but one name made my blood run cold.

“—and then there’s… {{user}},” she said casually, as if mentioning any ordinary acquaintance.

    It couldn’t be...

I froze, my heart hammering. “Wait,” I said, my voice sharper than I intended. “Did you just say… {{user}}?”

Annika paused mid-sentence, brow furrowing. “Yeah? Why?”

I leaned forward, trying to mask the disbelief on my face.

Jeremy glanced between us, confused. “Annika, what’s going on?”

But I didn’t care about him. All I could do was focus on that name, repeating it in my mind like a prayer and a curse at the same time.
