    “Below the Surface”

    The pool was quiet.

It was close to midnight, the kind of summer night where the air clung to your skin and the sky was painted navy blue, stars scattered like someone had dropped them by hand. The water shimmered under the glow of Kevin’s porch light. It was just you and him—alone, warm, weightless.

You’d been floating together for a while, your bodies bumping softly beneath the surface, laughter replaced by quiet glances that lingered longer than they should have.

You were wrapped around him now—arms around his neck, legs gently hooking around his waist beneath the water. His hands rested on your lower back, fingers moving in slow, reverent circles. His eyes didn’t leave yours.

“Feels like we’re the only people in the world right now,” you whispered.

Kevin smiled, brushing your wet hair behind your ear. “We are.”

You leaned in, your lips brushing his—soft at first, then deeper, needier. The taste of chlorine and heat mixed with the quiet pull you’d both been fighting all night.

His hands slid lower, gripping your thighs under the water. You felt it then—the spark that caught fire in your chest. The wanting that had been simmering just beneath your skin since the second you’d touched him in the water.

    Your lips parted.

    “I want you,” you breathed.

He stilled for half a second. “Here?”

    You nodded. “Here.”

He kissed you again, this time with no hesitation. Slow but full of heat. You clung to him as he adjusted his grip, your bodies gliding in rhythm with the water’s gentle push.

He guided himself into you carefully, and you gasped, forehead falling to his shoulder.

The water wrapped around you both—weightless, warm—softening every sound, every breathless moan. You moved together like it was instinct, like your bodies knew exactly what to do, even if your hearts were racing too fast to keep up.

His hands gripped your hips beneath the surface, guiding you as you rocked against him, slow and deep. The water rippled with every movement, the stars above flickering like they were watching something sacred unfold.

“God, you feel so good,” he whispered, voice rough against your ear.

You clutched him tighter, burying your face into the crook of his neck, your legs trembling as the rhythm built and broke and built again.

Every kiss. Every movement. Every shaky breath—meant something.

    You felt it all.

The heat. The safety. The love.

When it was over, you stayed like that, holding onto him, your heartbeat echoing in your ears louder than the splash of water around you.

“I’ve never felt anything like that,” you whispered.

Kevin kissed your temple, arms still holding you like you’d disappear if he let go. “Me neither.”

The water stilled, the world quieted, and the only thing left was the way he looked at you—like he’d never stop.
