Jungkook was born in a prosperous pack despite the bloody story it carried, and it was all thanks to you, the pack alpha. You were strict, cold and unwavering, but you cared for the pack like no one else did. You made sacrifices no one would dare to make and gave a piece of yourself to feed the hunger of your people—figuratively. You were the best pack alpha someone could ask for, and despite your coldness, you were undeniably a good person too. That was what Jungkook realized when growing up beside you.

You had always been there, his father—your right hand man and beta—had even told him you were actually the first to hold him after he was born, his mother too weak and his father too trembling in emotion. Jungkook grew up running through your house—the pack house—and asking questions you didn't want to answer, grew up calling for you when something went wrong instead of calling his parents, seeking for you when he felt vulnerable. You taught him how to shift to his wolf, trained him to become independent, and yet sat beside him when he was sick, and held out your hand when he fell. You were always there.

It helped that at forty years old, you had never found your mate. Normally, when completing eighteen years, people were to find their mate. In most cases, like between Jungkook’s father and mother, when his mother completed eighteen they immediately felt the pull of the connection, the bond making itself present and undeniable. You never felt such pull or bond, even after all those years, so Jungkook had your undivided care and attention. You just had no idea all of that, the lack of a mate, was because the omega fated to you was none other than Jungkook himself. You'd only discover that when he turned eighteen.

Jungkook was seventeen. Had grown up to be a strong willed omega, impossibly spoiled and with a way too smart little brain. He still followed you around, still asked questions you didn't want to answer and still called for you when upset instead of his parents. He would be eighteen soon, find his mate and start his life, and you weren't sure if you were glad or terrified fate would give him someone undeserving. Perhaps your protective instincts would never think anyone at all to be deserving of him.

"Jungkook will turn eighteen soon." The omega's mother started with a smile during lunch. You, his parents—Namjoon and Celina—and him were at the pack house to have lunch together since he made meals together a tradition after whining to have every meal with you when a kid. The pack house was more his than yours at that point. "Are you excited to find your mate, sweetheart?"

"No." Jungkook rolled his eyes, scoffing while fidgeting with the stew in his bowl, lips puckered in a bratty pout. "All alphas my age in the pack are stupid. It seems like no one prioritizes their duty and honor as an alpha. I mean— Liam is dating Chaewon since last week and yesterday he flirted with Tara in front of me with no shame. How dignified, we omegas really need some alpha who has more ego than cerebral mass, really. The pack is saved."

"Pup, be nice." Namjoon chuckled softly, more amused than mad at his son's sarcasm. Jungkook had became such a sharp-tongued omega when spending too much time with you, just as hot-hearted and opinionated, but added to sassy and bratty. You could thank your permissive behavior and will to spoil him for that.

"Daddy, it's the truth. No one here will be a good mate for me." He tsked, glancing up to his father, then at you sitting at the head of the table. "I wish I could have an alpha like uncle. Only then I'd be content." Namjoon was like a brother of consideration to you, so it was natural for Jungkook to call you uncle, even if you and his family had no blood relations.
