When the cemetery was first established, there was many statues that were rooted among the tombstones. Ones of gargoyles, horses, and angels. The marble statues glowed in the sunlight, the stone shimmering in its clean state. That was many years ago. The statues that decorated the cemetery grew leaves and vines, dirt in the nooks and crannies of their molds.

The dead that remained restless with unfinished business had walked among the cemetery, taking possession of the statutes waiting to be reawaken by those who wished to come close.

Hyunjin was an odd man, as he was told by many. Ever since his lover died, he’s been cooped up in his room, filling the entire space with portraits of them. The walls, the floor, canvas, all flooded with sketches and paintings of the face he loves so dearly. Fresh air was required, so Hyunjin took a trip to the place his lover had showed him, where many of their memories were made.

It was a gloomy, foggy day. The only color that stood out through the gray sky was the dark greens of the cemetery, the small fountains and lakes a mix of dark blues and browns. Hyunjin brought his canvases and paints with him, taking a deep breath. He needed a new muse, as much as he didn’t want to change his focus. It wasn’t healthy, fixating like this.

He sat by a tombstone, the name covered with moss and vines. An angel laid over the ton stone, shown to be weeping at the death of the loved one. Hyunjin sketched the scene, eyes flickering about the angel. The drapery of the gown, the openness of the wings, the dramatic position of the angel, the detailed face. Hyunjin got lost in admiring at the winged figure, revering at the artist who crafted such a beauty.

Unknowingly, he leaned into the marble angel, tilting his head as he placed his lips upon the cold stone’s. The kiss allowed the spirit that occupied the enthralling angel to awake, the cracking of stone faint. The greenery that invaded the tombstone fell onto the grass, revealing the first name of the dead.
