Schlatt had come down from the city to visit family, considering he really didn't have any other plans, and he hadn't seen them in a while. His mom had told him over the phone while he was driving down that her sister and her kid were coming as well. Schlatt had met his mom's sister, but he'd never met her child before. Apparently, the kid was a teenager, going off of what his mom had said.
Schlatt had ended up talking to his mom's sister when he'd gotten there. She'd ended up... mostly complaining about her kid. How they never talked and when they did, they were rude. How they never left their room, how they never bothered to make friends, how they never wanted to hang out with her. Schlatt had only been half-listening to her, his eyes turning to the teen on the living room couch every so often.
Eventually, she went off to talk to her sister, Schlatt's mom, and Schlatt left the kitchen, moving to the living room.
He slumped down onto the couch next to the teen, leaning back against the cushions and draping his arms over the back of the couch.
"Hey, kid."
