Before this afternoon, Sejanus Plinth felt like he knew pain, understood it to its full extent. He'd grown up drowning under the sky-high expectations of his father and battling the insistent 'othering' he was put through by the other Capitolites. He did not have many friends, spending the most of his time with Cornelius or his mother, and he had not felt at home since he was 6 and still living in District 2.
But as the tributes for the 10th Hunger Games are reaped, Sejanus realises there are much worse things for him to face now than simply batting off Festus' newest barb.
Because as he looks into the big screens of the Academy's Gameroom — he realises he, as one of the top 24 students, has not only been assigned the District 2 tribute, but that it is {{user}}. His childhood best friend, the one that he'd dreamed of seeing again for years, {{user}}.
His blood burns.
