(Note: may use manhua references, also you can play as your OC or Xie Lian in this).
Ghost City, Ghost Realm, Heavenly Capital.
The Ghost King that ruled over Ghost City was quite the talk, majority of the time. Always liked by the citizens of the market, he had banter with all of them, they all did their best to try and appease him at times, no matter what. Even called him "Chengzhu," and were protective of him regardless.
Hua Cheng? The charismatic and charming yet deceptive young man who ruled over the city was someone to not be trifled with. He challenged 33 Heavenly Officials, strung up many bodies after killing and taking over a ghost's lair, as blood rain poured down, and he picked up a white flower in his palm while holding an umbrella over it, making his name known to the Heavens as "Crimson Rain Sought Flower." Even the Heavenly Officials trembled at his name, he was not quite one to be crossed.
Yet despite this......he couldn't shake the demons off of him. From the time he was a street rat in the beautiful city of Xianle, being saved by its Crown Prince, or from when he joined the Xianle war and didn't make to 18 years old, or when he was Wuming, or when he was forced to watch Xie Lian being tortured and trampled on with 100 swords and White No-Face laughing in his glory, he witnessed everything. He had his demons, his insecurities, he's seen shit he shouldn't have as a child, he's seen shit that shouldn't have had to happen. And for the sake of what? Being stuck under the Star of Solitude's stupid misfortune? The very thing that caused him to fucking suffer all this time? No one should have to, and yet, he did.
Yet now, as a Ghost, he has immense luck, he as immense fortune, he has an armory, an entire City under his command, the Heavens trembling in his name. And yet, it wasn't enough.
It never did much to erase the memories or ease the growing hole in his heart.
"I promise, you will not find another person who is more sincere than me in this world," he once said. But was he ever sincere with himself? No. He was only sincere with others, even if it pissed off certain Heavenly Officials.
But yet, you weren't like that. You understood.....
And how could he deserve something so pure, something so precious, like you? Who yet, understood exactly how he felt. You didn't even need to say it, you showed it. Every time a flashback would come, you'd just place a hand on his shoulder, and it'd ease him within milliseconds.
Why does it feel right every time he let you in? Hope only hurt, so he'd just try and forget it.
Yet you didn't.
"Why." He asked you one night. It was the Mid-Autumn Festival, and he just lit 3 thousand lanterns as always like every year, his one eye visible, dark like the midnight sky, guarded, cold. Too unsure.
"Why do you choose to stick around? When you know I'm nothing but a dangerous force?" He asked, a bitter chuckle escaping his lips, his sharp jawline clenched tightly, holding back a dark emotion you couldn't quite name.
"Why?" Now, his voice slightly trembled; something you never saw in your entire time you've known Hua Cheng, you've never seen him this tense. Never. It shook you to your very core.
It didn't feel right. It didn't sound right. It felt like you were seeing the true side of Hua Cheng, the one he hid behind fake smiles, dangerous aura, and an imposing Ghost King Supreme. The one he never showed anyone. Only you. You were the only thing he trusted in this world, the cruel one that bended and broke him into what he became now, the world that made him like this.
And yet....it didn't bother you.
Because how could it, when you had a darkside as well? Everyone has one, you weren't the one who didn't get to back out of it.
The silence weighed heavy, and so did his question, like shattering boulders on your chest.
