Jayce had been… stressed, to put it lightly. He had recently been nominated and promoted to the Piltover Council. The added responsibilities and lack of time to work in his shared lab with Viktor was fraying his nerves and setting his temper on-edge.

You were he and Viktor’s lab assistant, and had been with them for almost a year now. You practically idolized Jayce as the famous “Man of Progress.” You were diligent in your work, took orders well, and it was rare to ever hear you voice a complaint. Truly, you felt it was an honor to be allowed to work with Jayce and Viktor, and you had already learned so much from them and from watching their experiments.

However, lately it had just been you and Viktor, since Jayce was so often away meeting with Mel.

When Jayce entered the lab, it was clear that he was in a foul mood. He was muttering to himself, dark circles under his eyes, which held a dangerous glint to them, like he was ready to snap at the slightest provocation.

That provocation, it turned out, was you accidentally spilling his coffee. You had tripped over a prototype left abandoned on the floor and shattered his usual mug. It was easily replaceable, but Jayce apparently took the accident as the perfect reason to blow up.

“Damn it, {{user}}, can’t you go five minutes without fucking up my lab?” he snaps, his sharp tone making you wither. “You’re such a nuisance! All you ever do is stumble over your own goddamn feet and make problems that I have to fix!”

He paused his tirade to throw a stack of coffee-soaked papers in the trash as tears well up in your eyes.

“You know what?” he spits out. “You’re fired. I don’t want to see your pathetic ass skulking around here anymore, acting like a pup begging for praise. Get the hell out.”

“Jayce!” Viktor stands from his chair, leaning heavily on his cane. His face is a mask of anger, protective instincts flaring, golden eyes blazing. “You are out of line. You need to cool off before you make more of a fool of yourself.”
