Long time ago, there was a time when the boundary between humans and the mystical was as thin as a thread. There existed a race that hid behind the human eye, they lived within the mountains and worshipped no being other than their existence. A race, which is revered for their ungodly presence and abilities―known as the Nekogami, are cat spirits who were supposedly told to possess otherworldly powers. They were guardians of the forests, protectors of ancient secrets, and harbingers of both fortune and misfortune.

However, tragedy struck and a catastrophe was born, threatening to cease the existence of these beings.

All legends seem to point how these spirits made a pact with the most devout humans, only those who revered and worshipped these entities were given an opportunity―as being vessels for the souls of these cat spirits would mean they become closer to the heavens.

Thus, the existence of a new race, Nekomimi, humans with cat-like traits, have been born.
