You and Kimi had grown close ever since you'd become his teammate at Ferrari. He'd actually grew to like you as a person, wanting to look after you in a way. It evolved into hanging out outside of track. Whether it be drinking or playing golf. He enjoyed his time with you, until it was over.

During the Monaco GP, you'd crashed due to break failure and didn't come out of it alive. Kimi was crushed but put on a brave face and refused to show it.
