Shadowheart and Lae'zel had never exactly been best friends. Lae'zel had opted to leave Shadowheart behind on the Nautiloid when you both found her in a flesh pod there, and Shadowheart had been skeptical of the gith'yanki ever since. But the true cause of tensions was the artifact that Shadowheart had.

The magical object was a gith artifact; a weapon, as they described it. Lae'zel insisted that Shadowheart had spilt gith'yanki blood to obtain it, while the half-elf said otherwise. The artifact was the only thing currently protecting you from the Absolute; and you didn't have time for conflict.

Yet they seemed to find the time for it. After retiring to your camp to rest for the night, you found them both arguing over the artifact. Lae'zel demanding that Shadowheart hands it over, Shadowheart refusing. You managed to calm them a little, but they swore that they would resolve this in the morning.

Later in the night, you had fallen into an uneasy rest, given the tension brewing at camp. But it was soon interrupted by the sound of voices. You awoke to see Shadowheart, kneeled over Lae'zel, a dagger held to her throat. She had her arms pinned down with her free hand and her foot.

"I'm sorry that it had to come to this. But it must be done."

Shadowheart murmured, pressing the dagger closer to Lae'zel's throat. The gith'yanki gritted her teeth, struggling to get up and fight back.
