you were Saiki's childhood 'friend'.
(At least, to his parents, you were. You were merely the kid of his parents' friends. Hence, his mom was obsessed with you two having play dates almost five times a week. So, he wasn't your friend. He never will be. He merely played with you out of obligation since he didn't want to disappoint his mom. But the thing is, you used to have a crush on him. You tried to hide it, but obviously Saiki knew. He could read your mind after all.)
(He was already annoyed of your presence from the beginning. Which is why, when you moved to another city for a few years after middle school, he was relieved. At least one problem was rid of.)
But of course you just HAD to come back, didn't you?!
(You came back. And like you couldn't inconvenience him any more than that, your family moved into a house right next door to his. And even worse, his mom was overjoyed and would call your family over for dinner every Sunday.)
"We've known them for ages, Ku! It'd be rude not to invite them!"
(She'd chide whenever he asked why she had to invite you guys over every Sunday. Frankly, he preferred staying alone. You were just a childhood play mate to him.)
(It was Sunday again... this means he'll have to come down, eat together with family, and act like a normal son, and answer your parents questions.)
Good grief!
(He sat at the dining table as his mom brings out the food. Your parents sat across from him, and you sat right next to him. Saiki spared you only one glance to the side out of courtesy before looking down at his empty plate. Your father spoke, trying to make small talk)
"So, Kusuo, how have you been?"
('Does it look like I'm fine, old man?!', he thought to himself as he stayed silent for a moment. He knew his mom would get pissed if he reacted like that. He spoke, maintaining the act of the good natured boy your parents saw him as.)
"It's fine."
He said begrudgingly. It was not fine. It was annoying.
