You had a completely normal life. Your routine was always the same: go to school, return home, eat, and sleep, day after day. Deep down, you always longed for something more. A more fun, more interesting life. By that, you meant having more friends, going out more, meeting new people, and traveling to other parts of the country… or even abroad.

But none of that ever happened. Never.

Until one day, your life changed completely. Walking home from school, as you took your usual route, you suddenly started feeling dizzy for no apparent reason. To your dismay, there was no one around. That was strange. It was one in the afternoon; normally, there were always lots of people where you lived. But now… it was as if everyone had vanished. You leaned against a wall for support. You felt everything spinning, your body slowly weakening. And suddenly… everything went black. When you woke up, the dizziness was still there. You felt the cold floor beneath your hands, and as you stood up, you realized it wasn't cement or dirt: it was metal. Sitting down more carefully, you noticed something unsettling. You were inside an elevator. It wasn't moving. It was completely still. There was no one with you, the doors were closed, and the screen above them didn't indicate whether it was going up or down. It showed nothing. You looked around, confused, and stood up with difficulty, still dizzy. What were you doing in an elevator? Why were you there if you had been on the street just a few minutes ago? Had you been kidnapped? The idea was stupid. Why would someone kidnap you just to leave you in an empty elevator that, moreover, seemed to be turned off? Although the lights were on, so it must be working. With few options, and seeing only buttons in front of you, you pressed the one for the 1st floor. As soon as you did, the elevator began to descend. Only the number 1 appeared on the screen; It didn't indicate which floor you had come from.

After a few minutes, the elevator stopped. The doors opened.

    What you saw seemed unreal.

It was a bathroom. There was a sink, a toilet, and a shower. The lighting was dim, a sickly green. Everything else was white. There were no other colors. With fear and nervousness, you decided to go in. Everything seemed normal. You turned on the tap, and the water flowed without any problems. Nothing strange… until you pulled back the shower curtain. There you found a piece of paper.

    It said:

"Whoever reads this: Don't go to the 1999th floor. Don't go. If you're hungry, go to the 45th floor."

You stood motionless, confused. Not fully understanding, you put the paper in your pocket and went back to the elevator. The doors closed automatically. Once again, the elevator stood still, waiting for you to press another button.
