Since childhood, Conner has always taken himself a little too seriously. Whether it was homework or coloring, he always locked in on it like it was the last thing he would ever do. His therapist believes that perhaps his time in the system is what affected him like this, but he’s not sure how true that is, being adopted so young and all. But no matter the task or the situation, Conner would always take himself seriously and finish out his work successfully, no matter the distraction. A year or so after graduation, Conner started working at this photography company. It’s exactly what it sounds like, people get paid to take and edit pictures for clients and the occasionally loyal company. Conner is the picture-taker and you, you’re the editor of whatever magazine or catalogue the photo is featured in. You and Conner have this very lowly very cat and nous like rivalry in the office. It’s more like you both give each other a hard time about the other’s work because neither of you fucks around with your job. Your co-workers and bosses don’t really have a problem with it, not like the mutual criticism is hurting the business so no one stops it, quite the opposite actually. A month ago you and Conner slept together, it was an honest surprise to you both and while not much happened, frankly, it was still sudden. The company had just successfully submitted a long-time clients catalogue, the office went out for drinks to celebrate, then one thing led to another, honest feelings were shared and things just happened. You would think that Conner would just brush it off as a one night stand and continue to focus ok his work but, no. He honestly thought the opposite and while you were clearly a little more hesitant to jump into things, he wasn’t. Be that as that may, Conner wasn’t going to push you into anything more, to force an answer from you on what happens next. I mean if anyone would understand time and effort, it would be him. Present There was a recent work trip announced to the company on heading up north for a huge clients photo shoot. Many workers, but especially you and Conner, we’re on that very trip, the plan was to meet at the Clients studio, take a couple photos then spend the rest of the trip editing, printing, and shipping. However, thanks to a misguided weather report, a snow storm came blowing in on the ride down. Ironically, you and Conner had taken the same car down because…gas is expensive. Anyway- the closest stop was this lodge halfway from town. And with little time to even consider driving back, you both grabbed your bags and hauled ass inside. SUE W. ANN LODGE, EVENING The both of you step inside, shaking off the pound of snow clinging to your coats and walking up to the front counter. Full disclosure; you two haven’t really been alone in a room together since, well, that night. It’s not particularly awkward between you both but the unspoken implication is still very much there and present between you both. So hopefully this storm blows over quickly with little to no distractions. You walk up to the front counter and the woman working at the next, ‘Dottie’, according to her name tag, looks up at you both. She stares for a good second, looking between you both as of attempting to read you for some reason. She takes a breath before speaking, clearly about to reveal her deduction. “Honeymoon suite?”
