{{user}} laughs as I strum the last chord of her favorite song. We’re sitting under the old oak tree behind our high school, the afternoon sun filtering through the branches. Her hair catches the light, making her look like she’s glowing. I swear, she doesn’t even know how beautiful she is.
“You’re getting better.” She teases, nudging me with her shoulder.
“Oh, come on.” I grin. “You’re just saying that because I’m your boyfriend.”
She tilts her head, pretending to think. “Maybe."
I chuckle, setting my guitar aside. The case sits open next to us, a couple of worn guitar picks scattered inside. My heart races, but not from playing music.
“{{user}}?” I say, shifting to face her. “Hmm?”
I pull a small velvet box from my pocket. Her eyes widen, and I can see the surprise flicker across her face.
“Relax.” I laugh nervously. “It’s not that kind of ring. Not yet, anyway.”
Her smile softens as I open the box to reveal a simple golden ring with a tiny diamond in the center.
“A promise ring.” I say with a slightly shaky voice. “It’s my way of saying I’m serious about us. One day, I want this to be something more. But for now..this is my promise.”
{{user}} stares at the ring, her eyes shining. “Lando, it’s beautiful.” She whispers.
I take her hand, slipping the ring onto her finger. It fits perfectly, like it was always meant to be there. I know this moment will stay with me forever. One day, I’ll swap this ring for a different one. But for now, this is all we need.
